Through hands-on outreach in local and world-wide missions, we endeavor to express God’s inclusive love. Our projects include:

LIFE IN COMMUNITY

Darlington Applefest – A community tradition of fellowship, crafts, and good food held annually the first Saturday in October. Look for the famous “heavenly” Deer Creek Harmony apple cakes. Proceeds benefit various Harmony mission projects.

Harford Family House, Inc. – This is a transitional living program for homeless families with children. Our association with Harford Family House is hands-on: we help supply the “common cupboard,” maintain an apartment, and help support and encourage the family in residence.

Welcome One Emergency Shelter – Deer Creek Harmony is a Founding Supporter of Welcome One, a permanent shelter for homeless men and women located in the Riverside Business Park. Welcome One is a collaborative effort with the Harford County Government, local faith communities, and various civic agencies and currently houses up to 28 individuals, with attendant support services.

S.A.R.C. (Sexual Assault/Spouse Abuse Resource Center, Inc.) – S.A.R.C. is a “lifeline” for persons confronting violence in intimate relationships. It provides a 24-hour helpline, companion and legal services, victim’s and perpetrator’s counseling, safehouse services, and community education. Harmony supports S.A.R.C. through funding and safehouse supplies. Also, in the context of an annual Sunday worship service, we educate about Intimate Partner Violence and seek to loosen the grip that violence maintains in our personal lives.

Pastoral Counseling Services of Maryland – Provides counseling and psychotherapy services for emotional and spiritual health in individuals, couples, families, children, and youth, as well as specialized services such as addiction counseling, marriage preparation, and other educational services.

WORLDWIDE

Through the Presbytery of Baltimore

Guatemala Partnership – We participate in the Baltimore Presbytery Guatemalan Partnership www.guatemalapartnership.org building cross-cultural relationship and raising funds to purchase educational scholarships and insure health care to the Chimaltenango community. Over one-quarter of our congregation has traveled to Guatemala to learn about and strengthen our work there.

Harmony in the Kaqchikel Presbytery – Deer Creek Harmony has provided start-up funds for purchase of musical instruments and music lessons at the Theological Institute in Chimaltenango.

Through the General Assembly of the PCUSA (Presbyterian Church U.S.A.)

One Great Hour of Sharing – Since 1949, Presbyterians have been joining with other Christians in a worldwide effort to meet human needs occasioned by poverty and natural disaster. Deer Creek Harmony joins this effort each Lent, with resultant funds going to support the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Hunger Program, and Self-Development of Peoples.

Other Worldwide Efforts

Heifer International – Heifer works with communities worldwide to end hunger and poverty and to promote care for the earth through gifts of livestock, plant seedlings, and training, so families receive a “hand-up, not just a hand-out.” We promote “alternative” Christmas gifts of livestock to help families generate income in sustainable ways.
