Deer Creek Harmony Church - Green Grace

Grow, protect . . .

Our GREEN GRACE MINISTRIES express our gratitude for God’s good creation and encourage attitudes and practices of care for the earth and all its beings.

Harmony Gardeners – Deer Creek Harmony is located amidst rolling countryside, with views of neighboring fields, grazing horses and cattle, and vineyard. The Gardeners tend our churchyard plantings and are in the process of developing Harmony Garden, outdoor meditation space with benches for enjoying the scenery and for prayer.

God on the Ground – Since 2007, Harmony has held an annual Earth Day celebration with nature-themed art exhibition, artists’ reception, and a special worship service.

Celebration of Creation in Worship – Our God on the Ground Earth Day Sunday features blue grass music and Scripture, prayers, and message to foster a change of heart and habit in our relationship with the natural world. We regularly incorporate earth-oriented themes in worship, including words and insights of indigenous peoples and music from the global community.

En plein air Artists – Members and friends of Harmony Church take easels and sketch pads out-of-doors (“en plein air”) to capture the beauty of the surrounding countryside.

Earthprints – Harmony’s Earthprints ministries include the practices we follow as a church and as individuals to live more lightly on the earth. It also includes the wider associations of our network of “Earth Care Friends.”

Creatures Great and Small

Days End Horse Rescue Farm – An internationally recognized organization working for “quality care and treatment of horses through intervention, education, and outreach.” Days End also works with local “people” agencies, since abuse and neglect of animals often escalates to violence against human beings.

Earthcare Friends

Care of Creation Task Force of Baltimore Presbytery is an active, progressive group of scientists, lay people, and clergy working to make creation care a mainstay of congregational and personal life. Check out www.creationcarebaltimore.com

Some of Harmony’s local earthcare friends include the Harford Land Trust and the Deer Creek Watershed Association.
