Deer Creek Harmony Church - Arts and Spirituality

Take Time Out, Deepen . . .

Deer Creek Harmony offers opportunities for members and friends to take time out for quiet and refreshment, to listen for God’s voice, and to remind ourselves of the loving One in whom we “live, move, and have our being.”

Worship – Contemplative worship services, such as our Advent Service of Light and Good Friday vigil, are held throughout the year for those who find quiet music, Scripture, and poetry an evocative pathway to prayer. Services of Healing held during Sunday worship offer the blessing of sacred touch as a tangible expression of Christ’s compassion.

Prayer Corner – A meditative indoor nook next to the sanctuary, overlooking our scenic grounds, is available for reflection and preparation for Sunday worship.

Harmony Garden – A meditation corner with benches for prayer or conversation is located along the front stone wall of our churchyard. A second corner in the shaded upper churchyard is planned for summer 2010.

A.B.C. Ministries (Arts Building Community) – At Harmony, we bring gifts and insights from the visual, musical, literary, and lively arts to our calling as followers of Jesus.

Congregational Sundays – Throughout the year, church members plan and lead worship, often with a “readers’ theater” piece serving as a springboard for discussion. Recent Sundays have included scenes from Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, Edna St. Vincent Millay’s Aria da Capo, and “The Accidental Meeting of Peter and Barabbas after the Crucifixion” adapted from Barabbas by Pär Lagerkvist.

En plein air Artists – Members and friends of Harmony Church take easels and sketchpads out-of-doors (“en plein air”) to capture the beauty of the surrounding countryside. Supportive learning, field trips (Philadelphia Museum of Art, National Gallery), and friendships are part of the experience.
